Tesla has officially established a presence in Vietnam, marking its entry into one of Southeast Asia's rapidly expanding electric vehicle markets. The new entity, Tesla Motors Vietnam Limited Liability Company, began operations on September 11 in Ho Chi Minh City. The company was registered with a charter capital of approximately $3 million.
The business license for the Vietnamese unit covers the wholesale, retail, import, export, and distribution of vehicles, parts, and equipment. Documentation indicates that the operation focuses on sales and after-sales service rather than local manufacturing or assembly. David Jon Feinstein serves as the company chair, with Isabel Ching Fan appointed as general director.
This expansion fills a gap in Tesla's regional footprint, which already includes official stores in Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia. The company enters a market currently dominated by the local manufacturer VinFast. In the first half of 2026, VinFast delivered 115 916 electric vehicles in Vietnam, representing a 72% year-over-year increase.
In August 2026, VinFast sold 20 161 units, securing a 42% share of the national market. The total Vietnamese vehicle market reached 48 484 units that month, reflecting an 18% month-over-month decline. Tesla has not issued a public announcement regarding its entry, and the company did not provide comments on its future plans for imports or charging infrastructure.
