Tesla has officially established a legal presence in Vietnam by registering Tesla Motors Vietnam Limited Liability Company in Ho Chi Minh City on September 11. The new entity has a charter capital of approximately $3 million, or VND 77.7 billion. Its scope includes the import, export, distribution, and retail of vehicles and parts, though it does not currently include manufacturing.

The company faces significant competition from the local automaker VinFast, which holds roughly 92% of the domestic electric vehicle market as of mid-2026. VinFast has maintained its position as the top-selling automaker in the country for 24 consecutive months. In the first eight months of 2026, the company delivered over 154,000 vehicles, following 175,000 deliveries throughout 2025.

As of 2025, electric vehicles accounted for nearly 40% of all new car sales in Vietnam. Despite this market penetration, Tesla has not yet announced specific plans for showrooms, service centers, or charging infrastructure. The leadership team for the new entity includes David Jon Feinstein as chairman, Isabel Ching Fan as general director, and Nguyen Manh Hung as assistant.
