Tesla China reported 86,166 wholesale vehicle sales in August 2026, marking a 3.57% increase compared to the same month last year. Despite this year-on-year growth, the figure represents a 7.92% decline from the 93,579 units sold in July. This result ends a three-month streak of sequential gains for the company.
For the first eight months of 2026, Tesla China reached 647,694 wholesale sales, reflecting a 25.63% increase year-on-year. This total exceeds the previous record for the same period set in 2023 by 3.63%. The August performance accounts for approximately 5.71% of the broader Chinese passenger new energy vehicle market.
The total wholesale figures include both domestic deliveries and exports from the Shanghai factory. While Tesla saw a decline in monthly sales, the overall Chinese new energy vehicle market grew by 16% year-on-year to 1.51 million units. Local competitors, including Leapmotor and BYD, reported higher sales volumes during the same period.
Leapmotor reported 103,129 global deliveries in August, surpassing Tesla China's wholesale figures for the third month in a row. Meanwhile, BYD sold 440,293 new energy vehicles, representing a 17.84% year-on-year increase. Zeekr and Nio recorded 36,981 and 35,836 deliveries respectively.
