Tesla has introduced the Powershare Home Backup feature for new Model 3 and Model Y vehicles. This functionality enables the electric cars to supply stored energy back to a residence during power outages when integrated with the Powerwall 3 home energy system.

To utilize this capability, the vehicle must be connected to a compatible Wall Connector. According to Tesla, this integration can extend a home's autonomous power duration by more than two days, based on an average daily consumption of 30 kWh per household in the United States.

The feature is available for Model 3 and Model Y units ordered in the US from October 1, 2026. Activation occurs through a software update, provided the user already possesses a Powerwall 3 and the necessary charging hardware.

The company notes that the battery capacity of Premium and Performance trims for the Model 3 and Model Y is equivalent to nearly six Powerwall units. Even the base 2027 models of the Model 3 and Model Y now include this backup power support.
