In 2026, 25% of large Russian companies reported that technical debt affects more than half of their infrastructure software. Furthermore, 8% of organizations have exceeded a critical threshold, with technical debt impacting over 75% of their infrastructure platforms.
The most problematic areas include backup and disaster recovery systems at 27%, operating systems at 23%, and IT management and monitoring platforms at 21%. These categories are also identified by businesses as the most critical components of their IT landscape.
High levels of technical debt are most prevalent in the telecommunications (30%), chemical (29%), and manufacturing (28%) sectors. In contrast, the financial sector shows the lowest prevalence, with only 16% of companies reporting significant infrastructure debt.
Most organizations are opting for targeted modernization rather than comprehensive upgrades. Only 11% of companies have plans for large-scale infrastructure renewal, while 35% are budgeting for the replacement of individual platforms.
The data is based on a survey of 202 corporate clients, including mid-sized and large enterprises, conducted by OCS in April and May 2026. Respondents included IT directors and their deputies responsible for infrastructure software procurement.
