ICANN has received 1,615 applications for new top-level domains (TLDs) from 481 applicants. A significant portion of these requests focuses on AI-related terms, reflecting a growing interest in domain infrastructure among major technology companies.

OpenAI submitted 15 applications, including requests for .gpt, .agi, .asi, .chatgpt, .codex, and .openai. Meta filed 21 applications, seeking domains such as .meta, .facebook, .instagram, .messenger, .threads, and .superintelligence. Anthropic has applied for .anthropic and .claude.

The applications are divided into general-purpose domains and brand-specific TLDs. Companies like Applebee's, Bank of America, Zillow, and Zoom are among the 345 entities seeking brand-exclusive domains to enhance their digital presence.

While these companies are pursuing new domain extensions, ICANN notes that the process is ongoing. The new top-level domains are not expected to become officially effective before next year, as the approval process remains in its early stages.
