The Australian state of Tasmania has launched the Electric Vehicle Destination Charging Grant Program to expand charging infrastructure. The government is providing a total of AUD 250,000 in grants to support tourism businesses in installing AC charging points at 24 locations across the region.
The first round of the initiative allocated AUD 125,000 to tourism operators. Businesses can receive up to AUD 2,500 per charger, with a limit of four units per applicant. The program focuses on overnight charging for guests at accommodation sites, complementing existing public infrastructure.
Applications for the initial round closed on 31 August. Early recipients include Bay of Fires Bush Retreat, Low Head Tourist Park, Rosevears Hotel, and Wilder Tasmania. A second round of funding, also totaling AUD 125,000, is scheduled for announcement in early 2027.
This initiative follows previous government efforts to improve charging access. In 2025, Tasmania awarded AUD 567,000 to 12 projects focused on public fast-charging stations. Additionally, the Electric Highway Tasmania project was previously established, featuring twelve 50 kW chargers and two ultra-rapid sites.
