Taiwan is set to criminalize the unauthorized export of advanced AI chips to China. The government plans to align its export control policies with US regulations, making the violation of these restrictions a criminal offense under local law.

The initiative follows a trade agreement between Taiwan and the US. Currently, Taiwanese law lacks specific provisions to prosecute individuals for exporting AI components to China, often relying on secondary charges like document forgery.

Taiwan is also planning to support the development of semiconductor industrial parks in the US, specifically in Texas. These facilities will cater to suppliers and partners of TSMC and Foxconn.

Each industrial complex is estimated to cost between $2 billion and $4 billion. The government intends to provide credit guarantees and facilitate cooperation with US authorities to support these private investments.

Earlier this year, Taiwan pledged $250 billion in credit guarantees to bolster semiconductor manufacturing within the United States.
