The football club Sunderland AFC has collaborated with RAW Charging to launch a new public electric vehicle charging facility at the Stadium of Light. The site includes 20 ultra-rapid charging bays, with 16 units providing 150 kW and four units offering up to 300 kW of power.
The project is part of the club’s Ready Eco sustainability initiative and operates exclusively on renewable energy. RAW Charging is investing £750 000 into the development and will handle the ongoing funding, operation, and maintenance of the infrastructure.
The hub is accessible to club supporters, visitors, and the general public, supporting contactless payments and major charging applications. As a promotional offer, members of the RAW Rewards program can access free charging on October 8 and 9.
This installation is part of a broader expansion strategy for RAW Charging, which has recently deployed similar hubs at various leisure and hospitality venues, including the Bluewater shopping center in Kent.
While the companies describe this as the largest operational hub in the North East of England, it may be surpassed by a planned 30-bay InstaVolt facility at Holystone Park. The latter project received planning permission in January 2025 but currently lacks a confirmed opening date.
