During the Basecamp conference in Singapore on October 7, 2026, the Sui network achieved a throughput of 40,614,180 transactions per second. The performance was verified in real time by the independent auditor CertiK, surpassing the initial goal of 20 million transactions per second.
This result marks a significant increase from the previous record of 6,086,766 transactions per second, which was set on July 4, 2026, during a livestream event focused on AI agents. The new milestone was reached using a feature called tunnels, which are programmable off-chain state channels designed for high-throughput operations.
The tunnel architecture allows parties to process large volumes of transactions off-chain before settling the final state on the main blockchain. Mysten Labs, the developer behind Sui, intends to use this technology to support agentic finance, where AI and machine learning systems execute commercial transactions autonomously.
To engage the community during the demonstration, organizers held a prediction contest. Participants who accurately estimated the transaction volume received rewards of 10,000, 5,000, and 1,000 SUI tokens.
