Sui and Alibaba Cloud have announced a partnership to integrate Alibaba Cloud services with Sui Agent Payments, a toolkit designed for AI-driven transactions. The system allows AI agents to manage budgets and execute payments for cloud services automatically without requiring human approval for every individual purchase.
The collaboration was unveiled at the Sui Basecamp conference in Singapore. Under this model, agents make payments for each request using stablecoins on the Sui network. This approach shifts the payment process from human-confirmed transactions to software-defined spending within pre-set budget limits.
While the companies have introduced the framework, they have not yet disclosed a launch date, pricing details, or specific services to be included. Concerns remain regarding potential technical bugs, such as infinite loops, which could deplete a set budget without automated rate limits or alerts.
The initiative aligns with broader industry trends, as noted by Mysten Labs co-founder Adeniyi Abiodun, who highlighted a shift toward machine-speed economic activity. Other networks are also entering this space, with Cardano recently adopting the x402 standard for agent payments.
Market data indicates that the SUI token has increased by approximately 43% over the past month. As the sector matures, the success of this integration could influence other cloud providers to adopt similar stablecoin-based payment models for autonomous agents.
