Strategy, the largest corporate holder of bitcoin, reported paper gains of $21 billion in the third quarter of 2026. This financial turnaround follows a period where the company experienced an $8.22 billion loss in July. The firm's founder and chairman, Michael Saylor, attributed the recent gains to the rising price of the leading cryptocurrency.
The company continues to expand its holdings, recently purchasing 334 bitcoins for $28.7 million. As of October 4, 2026, the firm holds 848,000 BTC, which are valued at approximately $72.6 billion. Additionally, the corporation maintains $5.7 billion in USD assets on its balance sheet.
Beyond its bitcoin acquisitions, the firm repurchased $176 million of its STRC preferred shares. The company has previously implemented a program allowing for the sale of BTC to generate up to $1.25 billion for its USD reserve, dividend payments, and interest expenses. Strategy CEO Phong Le described the company's current balance sheet as bullet-proof.
Market performance for the firm remains linked to the price of bitcoin, which increased by over 40 percent during the third quarter. The company's stock, traded under the ticker MSTR, saw a recent price increase of nearly 2 percent. Investors utilize the stock to gain exposure to cryptocurrency and earn yields through digital credit products.
