Strategy sold 6,916 BTC between late June and mid-August in four tranches at a weighted average price of approximately $62,200. Last week, the company acquired 4,603 BTC at an average price of $80,318.
CEO Phong Le stated that these moves were driven by financing needs rather than Bitcoin's price. The company sold assets to fund STRC dividends because issuing shares had become expensive, and is now buying again as MSTR trades at a premium.
During a two-month pause in acquisitions, Strategy increased its assets to $72 billion, built $7 billion in dollar reserves, and reduced its net debt from approximately $7 billion to zero.
The company currently holds 845,050 BTC, valued at roughly $65.4 billion. This represents a growth of 25% to 30% in holdings this year, with the recent sale accounting for less than 1% of total assets.
Phong Le describes Strategy as a two-way capital management company. He argues that active trading of Bitcoin, equity, and preferred shares is necessary for a full operating company, rather than simply accumulating assets.
