Stellantis and Leapmotor are expanding their partnership beyond distribution, moving into joint production and technical development. Leapmotor has begun manufacturing its B10 electric vehicle at the Stellantis plant in Zaragoza, Spain.
Opel is collaborating with Leapmotor to develop a new electric SUV, set for launch in 2028. The vehicle will be produced in Zaragoza. Opel is contributing chassis, design, and user experience expertise, while Leapmotor provides electric powertrain, battery, and electronic architecture technology.
Stellantis holds a 20 percent stake in Leapmotor and owns 51 percent of the Leapmotor International joint venture. CEO Antonio Filosa noted that Stellantis European plant utilization is at approximately 60 percent for 2025, with potential for additional Leapmotor models to fill capacity.
While Opel integrates Chinese technology to accelerate development, other brands within the group are taking different approaches. Peugeot CEO Alain Favey stated that the brand has no intention of developing vehicles with Leapmotor for the European market, emphasizing its own European value chain.
