Valve has released the SteamOS 3.9.2 beta, which introduces expanded support for third-party gaming handhelds. A key addition is preliminary native brightness control for the Lenovo Legion Go 2. This update continues the company's strategy of broadening compatibility beyond its own Steam Deck and Steam Machine hardware to include a wider range of portable gaming devices.
The software update addresses several technical issues, including a workaround for excessive fan speeds on certain ASUS devices during boot. It also resolves compatibility problems with Panther Lake CPUs that previously prevented games like Elden Ring and Dark Souls III from running correctly. Additionally, the update fixes a bug where the frame limiter toggle failed to function when VRR was enabled.
Beyond hardware-specific fixes, the beta version includes various improvements to the user interface and general system stability. These updates align with Valve's recent efforts to support Steam on ARM-based devices, such as Android handhelds modified by users. The company continues to refine the user experience through these incremental bug fixes and performance optimizations.
