German banking group Sparkassen has integrated cryptocurrency trading directly into its mobile banking applications. The service is powered by DekaBank, the group's securities division, which acts as the custodian for digital assets. Customers can now trade five specific cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Solana, and Polygon.

The platform is designed for self-directed investors, meaning no financial advice is provided. DekaBank guarantees a binding price for each trade for a limited time. While the service is available outside of traditional banking hours, access may be restricted during system maintenance or market disruptions. Currently, five savings banks are participating, with over 230 others expressing interest.

The service is available to the group's customer base of more than 40 million people. DekaBank manages assets in a centralized omnibus wallet, and private keys are held by the provider. Withdrawals are restricted to approved crypto-asset providers. The bank notes that these assets are not covered by statutory deposit insurance, and users face risks of price volatility.

According to the 2026 Global Crypto Adoption Index by Chainalysis, Germany ranks 13th in crypto adoption. Users should be aware that tax rules apply to gains, with an annual exemption threshold of €1 000. Customer support for the new trading service is available from Monday to Thursday between 8:00 and 18:00, and on Friday until 17:00.
