SpaceX is preparing to launch the classified NROL-97 mission for the National Reconnaissance Office using a Falcon Heavy rocket. The launch is scheduled for October 1 from Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center. The 59-minute window opens at 11:53 PM EDT.

The mission will utilize an expended center core, B1106, to deliver the high-mass payload to a high-energy orbit. Meanwhile, the two side boosters, B1072 and B1104, are slated for recovery at Landing Zones 2 and 1. This launch sets a record for the shortest turnaround time between Falcon Heavy missions.

The Falcon Heavy vehicle generates 22,819 kN of liftoff thrust and is capable of placing 26,700 kg into geostationary transfer orbit. Following this flight, SpaceX plans to launch the Griffin Mission One lunar lander for NASA no earlier than December 2026.

The company's manifest for the Falcon Heavy remains active through 2027, including upcoming missions for the United States Space Force and additional National Reconnaissance Office payloads. The rocket will continue operations until the Starship vehicle is fully ready for heavy-lift tasks.
