South Korean startup Soulart has introduced Station, a base station designed for full-body tracking in virtual reality. The device utilizes machine learning and an NPU to process motion recognition locally, eliminating the need for users to wear additional sensors.
The hardware features a single-camera design, similar to the Kinect. A single unit covers an area of up to 50 square meters and supports a tracking refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The company notes that while one device is sufficient for basic tracking, using multiple units can improve performance and stability.
The retail price for a single Station unit is expected to be under $400. Soulart stated that the product is currently in an early stage of development, meaning final pricing and tracking capabilities are subject to verification.
Soulart is also developing independent support for Valve's Steam Frame. This initiative aims to allow users to utilize full-body tracking on standalone VR headsets without relying on a PC connection, as announced by the company on the X platform.
