The teardown of the Wolverine Limited Edition PS5 Slim, conducted by user Modyficator89 and shared on October 1, reveals significant hardware revisions by Sony. The console now features the updated EDM-051 motherboard, which serves as the central hub for the processor, memory, storage, and power systems.

A notable change in the EDM-051 board is the inclusion of a user-replaceable CR2032 battery. This component is responsible for maintaining system time and specific firmware configurations. Sony has also simplified the internal layout and component arrangement to optimize the console's internal structure.

Thermal management has been overhauled, with the new design incorporating a liquid metal interface similar to that found in the PS5 Pro. Sony modified the protective layer surrounding the APU and adjusted the liquid metal encapsulation process to reduce the surface area directly exposed to the material.

The console also integrates an updated HDMI retimer chip. This component is designed to adjust HDMI signal timing for improved compatibility with displays, particularly at high resolutions and refresh rates. The new retimer solution is reported to be more cost-effective and features an optimized circuit design.
