Sony has unveiled its new generation of wireless gaming headsets for the PlayStation 5, featuring the PlayStation PULSE and the premium PULSE Edge. Both models mark the first time the PULSE series utilizes planar magnetic drivers, which improve sound separation, spatial positioning, and low-frequency performance compared to traditional dynamic drivers.
The headsets support PlayStation Link for lossless, low-latency audio across PS5, PlayStation Portal, PC, and Mac via an included USB Type-C adapter. They also feature dual connectivity, allowing simultaneous Bluetooth pairing for phone calls or music while gaming. Both models incorporate AI-enhanced noise cancellation for their microphones to filter out background noise during voice chats.
The PULSE Edge distinguishes itself with a more robust configuration, utilizing 8 magnets per side compared to 4 in the standard PULSE. It also includes active noise cancellation, a detachable boom microphone, and dedicated controls for balancing game and chat audio. The Edge model is built with premium materials and comes with a dedicated carrying case.
Sony has scheduled the release of the standard PlayStation PULSE for the 2026 holiday shopping season. The high-end PULSE Edge is slated to launch in early 2027. The company has not yet disclosed official pricing or specific pre-order dates for either device, promising to share these details at a later time.
