Sony is reportedly planning to revive several classic PlayStation franchises by partnering with smaller third-party developers. The initiative aims to bring back dormant intellectual properties that have not seen new installments for years.
The platformer series Ape Escape is expected to lead this revival. According to journalist Jeff Grubb, the new title is being developed by the independent studio Evening Star, known for their work on Sonic Mania and Penny's Big Breakaway.
Grubb noted that while the game is not expected to launch immediately, discussions regarding the project have been ongoing for nearly a year. He clarified that the development is handled by an external team rather than Sony's internal studio Team Asobi.
The company intends to expand this strategy beyond a single title. A similar model was applied to the 2025 release of Everybody's Golf: World Tour, which was developed by Bandai Namco. Reports also suggest that People Can Fly may be working on a new entry in the Killzone series.
