Sony has officially confirmed that the Xperia 10 VI smartphone will not receive the Android 17 update. This decision contradicts the company's initial promise made at the device's launch in the spring of 2024, which guaranteed three major OS updates, including the transition to Android 17.
The manufacturer attributes the cancellation to technical limitations related to the device's memory configuration. Sony stated that these constraints prevent the smartphone from supporting the new operating system version. However, the company did not specify which memory characteristics caused the issue.
The absence of the Xperia 10 VI from the official list of supported devices was first noted by users in September. While the upcoming Xperia 10 VII is expected to receive the update, Sony has not clarified the technical differences between the two models regarding their storage types, such as UFS 2.2 or UFS 3.1.
