Sony has mandated that PlayStation 5 users install the 14.10 firmware update to access the PlayStation Network. This requirement effectively forces users of jailbroken consoles to choose between maintaining system exploits or retaining access to online features, including multiplayer modes and digital license verification.

The 14.10 update, released on October 1, follows the 14.00 version from September 16, which previously addressed vulnerabilities used by tools like Byepervisor Reborn. While the Relapse jailbreak tool was recently updated to support version 13.60, allowing kernel read and write access, newer firmware versions continue to block these exploits.

The crackdown extends beyond firmware updates. The unauthorized Overdrive store, which provided game backups, has disappeared, leading to speculation regarding potential legal pressure from Sony. Furthermore, data mining indicates that the upcoming release of GTA 6 will require consoles to run firmware version 14.10 to function.
