Sony has registered a new camera model, codenamed WW261362, with the SRRC. The device supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth, and it is equipped with a BIONZ XR2 processor or a newer platform. Registration by Sony Japan typically indicates a mid-to-high-end positioning for the product.

Analysts suggest the new camera could be the Alpha 7S IV, as the Alpha 7S III was released in July 2020. Other recent models like the Alpha 7C II, Alpha 7C R, Alpha 1 II, and Alpha 9 III are still within their standard four-to-five-year update cycles, making them less likely candidates for replacement.

Speculation regarding the hardware includes a 16-megapixel full-stack sensor, similar to the one in the FX5, and a 9.44-million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder. The device is expected to feature the BIONZ XR2 processor, in-body image stabilization, and an autofocus system shared with the Alpha 7R VI.

The camera is expected to support still photography with a mechanical shutter. Unlike the FX5, it will likely use the standard Alpha series menu interface rather than the Cinema Line system and will feature a built-in electronic viewfinder instead of a detachable one. Official pricing and release dates remain unconfirmed.
