Sony has introduced a revised version of the PlayStation 5 Slim console featuring internal hardware updates. The changes were identified by technician Modyficator89 during the disassembly of a Marvel's Spider-Man 2 limited edition bundle, which revealed a new motherboard model labeled EDM-051.
The primary update involves the liquid metal cooling system. Sony redesigned the structure surrounding the APU to create a more secure seal, reducing the risk of liquid metal leakage. Additionally, the console now features a redesigned heatsink, adopting structural elements previously seen in the PS5 Pro model.
Maintenance accessibility has also been improved. The CMOS battery has been relocated to allow for easier replacement without requiring a full console disassembly. Furthermore, Sony has replaced the HDMI retimer chip with a lower-cost component, suggesting a focus on optimizing manufacturing processes.
While these internal adjustments aim to enhance long-term reliability and thermal performance, Sony has not officially announced the hardware revision. It remains unclear whether the EDM-051 motherboard will become the standard for all future PS5 Slim units or if it is limited to specific production batches.
