Sony has reportedly informed its retail partners that the supply shortage for the PS5 Pro console is expected to persist until at least early 2027. The company cited a combination of temporary market supply constraints and strong consumer demand as the primary reasons for the ongoing inventory issues.
The surge in demand is largely attributed to the upcoming release of GTA 6, scheduled for November 19, 2026. Since the game will not have a PC version at launch, players seeking the highest performance on the PlayStation platform are prioritizing the PS5 Pro, leading to frequent stockouts at major retailers and on PlayStation Direct.
In European markets, such as France, online availability has become increasingly limited, with some third-party sellers listing the console for prices exceeding €1,000. Retailers like Carrefour have reported double-digit growth in console sales and record-breaking pre-orders for GTA 6, further straining the available supply.
While Sony continues to ship units, replenishment is expected to be intermittent and sell out rapidly. The company anticipates that if the PS5 Pro remains unavailable, some consumer demand will shift toward other PS5 models. Industry analysts note that even with increased production, logistics could delay stock arrivals by several weeks or months.
