Sony has officially unveiled its fourth-generation DWX digital wireless microphone system, which includes the DWT-B40 bodypack transmitter and the DWR-R40Q rack-mount receiver. The company designed this new hardware to simplify channel configuration and pairing processes, making the equipment suitable for diverse environments ranging from professional broadcasting studios to corporate meetings, religious events, and theatrical productions.
The DWT-B40 transmitter features a maximum output power of 50mW, depending on regional regulations, and supports both USB power and lithium-ion batteries. It provides +48V phantom power for condenser microphones. The DWR-R40Q receiver utilizes a high-performance RF circuit and a four-antenna diversity mode to ensure stable audio transmission, even in environments with high signal congestion.
A key feature of the DWT-B40 is its built-in 32-bit float recording capability, which prevents clipping distortion regardless of gain settings. This function serves as a backup if wireless signals are interrupted and can be controlled remotely via the receiver. Data is exported via microSD cards, and the system supports timecode synchronization to streamline post-production workflows.
The new DWX series is scheduled for release in March 2027. In the Japanese market, the DWT-B40 transmitter is priced between ¥418,000 and ¥437,800, while the DWR-R40Q receiver is priced at ¥1,306,800. The company plans to showcase these products at the IBC 2026 exhibition in Amsterdam later this month.
