Sony has officially confirmed that the Xperia 10 VI smartphone will not receive the Android 17 update. The company previously committed to providing three major Android OS upgrades for the device, which launched in 2024 with Android 14. Consequently, Android 16 will now serve as the final major software version for this specific model.
The manufacturer cited technical limitations related to the device's storage configuration as the primary reason for the decision. While Sony conducted a detailed technical assessment, it did not disclose specific details regarding the nature of the storage constraints. The company issued a formal apology to users for failing to meet its initial software support promise.
Despite the cancellation of the Android 17 update, Sony confirmed that its security update schedule remains unchanged. The Xperia 10 VI will continue to receive security patches for four years following its release, with support ending in May 2028. Sony emphasized that these technical restrictions are unique to the Xperia 10 VI and do not impact other devices in the Xperia lineup.
