Sony has officially canceled the planned Android 17 update for the Xperia 10 VI smartphone. The device, which launched over two years ago with Android 14 and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset, was initially promised three major OS upgrades.

The company cited a detailed technical assessment as the reason for this change. According to Sony, the storage configuration of the Xperia 10 VI cannot support an adequate user experience for the Android 17 operating system.

Despite the cancellation of the OS update, Sony confirmed that it will continue providing security patches for the device. These updates are scheduled to run for four years, with support ending in June 2028.

Sony stated that this decision is specific to the hardware limitations of the Xperia 10 VI and does not affect the update schedules for other models in the Xperia lineup.
