Sony has started rolling out Android 17 for its Xperia smartphones, with the Xperia 1 VIII flagship leading the first wave of updates. The firmware version 73.1.A.2.61, which is approximately 1.2 GB in size, is currently available in Europe and will be expanded to other regions over time.

The update introduces a full desktop mode, allowing users to transform their device into a workstation. The quick settings panel has been redesigned, enabling users to customize the layout by rearranging tiles and changing their size, with larger elements now supporting additional descriptions.

Visual customization options have been expanded, including new wallpapers, clock styles, and more flexible settings for icon shapes and sizes. Screen recording capabilities have been improved, allowing for the capture of either the full display or a specific application, with simultaneous audio recording from both the system and the microphone.

The Xperia 1 VIII receives an exclusive feature called AI Camera Assistant in photo mode. This tool allows users to create up to three custom presets with individual names, saving their preferred color settings and other shooting parameters.

Additional models including the Xperia 1 VII, Xperia 1 VI, and the Xperia 10 VIII and Xperia 10 VII will also receive the Android 17 update.
