Solidigm, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SK Hynix, is reportedly exploring plans to construct a large-scale NAND manufacturing facility in the eastern United States. The company is currently evaluating potential locations, product lines, and production timelines for the project.
The company, which originated from Intel's former NAND and SSD division, currently operates its primary production base in Dalian, China. Its existing US footprint is limited to its corporate headquarters and research and development facilities.
Establishing a domestic wafer fab would allow Solidigm to improve its global supply chain resilience. It would also enable the company to supply storage equipment for AI data centers to major US technology firms with significantly reduced logistics lead times.
Regarding these reports, Solidigm stated that it is reviewing various strategies to enhance its business competitiveness. However, the company emphasized that no final decisions or specific plans have been confirmed at this stage.
