Solana Foundation has officially joined the Rust Foundation as a Platinum member, the highest membership tier available. The announcement was made on September 9, 2026, by Dr. Rebecca Rumbul, CEO and Executive Director of the Rust Foundation, during the opening remarks at RustConf 2026 in Montreal.
The Platinum tier requires an annual financial commitment of $325,000. In exchange, Solana Foundation gains a dedicated seat on the Rust Foundation's board, allowing it to participate in decisions regarding the language's compiler, toolchain, and standard library.
Solana had previously participated in the conference as a Diamond-level sponsor. According to Jacob Creech, Solana's VP of Technology, the Rust language has been fundamental to the network from its inception, providing the safety and performance required for high-throughput blockchain applications.
The event also saw NVIDIA's simultaneous elevation to Platinum membership, highlighting the growing importance of Rust in both high-throughput distributed systems and AI workloads.
