Joseph Chee, CEO of Solana Company and former UBS Asia investment bank chief, stated on October 6, 2026, that a potential reopening of mainland China to crypto trading could trigger a new supercycle for digital assets, with Bitcoin as a primary beneficiary.
Chee emphasized that this scenario is conditional on effective risk management by Beijing. He noted that there is no confirmed timeline or official plan for such a policy shift, and current restrictions on crypto trading in mainland China, in place since September 2021, remain active.
According to Chee, Beijing is currently utilizing Hong Kong as a testing ground for digital asset adoption. The city has established licensing frameworks for stablecoin issuers and launched pilot projects for tokenizing real-world assets to experiment with regulatory approaches.
The success of these Hong Kong initiatives could serve as a template for future policy experiments on the mainland. Investors are monitoring these developments, as a potential market reopening could restore access to one of the world's largest user bases.
