Anatoly Yakovenko, co-founder of Solana, has proposed a new mechanism for generating network revenue. The concept involves using Solana validators as a stake-weighted oracle to price tokenized collateral, which would then be used to mint new SOL tokens.

The proposal suggests that profits generated from this activity would be taxed to increase overall network revenue. Under this model, a validator's influence on price discovery would be proportional to the amount of SOL staked with them, mirroring existing governance structures on the network.

This initiative follows the October 21, 2026, launch of the Alpenglow upgrade, which reduced transaction finality to approximately 150 milliseconds. The upgrade improved the efficiency of validator voting, providing the technical foundation for the proposed oracle system.

Currently, price data for tokenized assets on Solana is provided by external networks such as Pyth and RedStone. Yakovenko's idea would introduce a native alternative integrated directly into the network's security model, though it remains in the early conceptual stage.

The proposal has not yet been submitted as a formal governance motion, and there is no established timeline for implementation. Potential risks include the impact of new SOL issuance on token supply and the concentration of pricing authority among large stakers.
