Sceye's HAPS consists of a helium balloon and base station equipment. The system was launched from New Mexico, USA, and traveled 15,000 km across the Pacific Ocean to reach Japan, completing the journey in 13 days.
The platform operated within Japanese airspace for over 7 days and is currently returning. The system's theoretical coverage is equivalent to 500 ground-based base stations, with an operational flight altitude of approximately 16.5 km.
During the mission, the addressing radius was reduced to 5 km, achieving communication performance comparable to ground networks. The test system was the first globally to integrate a mobile core network and a Web server for processing on a HAPS platform.
The average round-trip processing response time was 68 ms, which is more than 40% lower than cloud processing based on the internet.
