Snap is preparing to launch its new augmented reality glasses, called Specs, this fall. The device will be priced at $2,195. The company has spent more than five years developing the technology, previously releasing two generations of hardware exclusively for developers.

The Specs are standalone computers that do not require a connection to a phone or external battery. They are available in two lens sizes, 47mm and 52mm. The glasses feature waveguide displays capable of showing 16 million colors, though the exact resolution remains unspecified.

The device utilizes hand-tracking technology, allowing users to manipulate interface elements through gestures like pinching and dragging. Users can also trigger a camera via a finger-snap gesture. A central indicator light serves as a privacy feature for photo and video recording.

The hardware includes a 51-degree field of view and an integrated AI chatbot assistant. During testing, the device demonstrated a battery life cycle of four hours. The glasses are designed to function without being tethered to external compute units.
