Snap has officially launched its first standalone AR glasses for consumers, the Snap Specs. The Wi-Fi model is priced at $2,195. A cellular version, developed in partnership with Verizon, is available for $2,395.
Data plans for the cellular model start at $10 per month for Verizon customers and $20 per month for non-Verizon users. The glasses are constructed from TR90 polymer, available in two sizes weighing 132 grams and 136 grams, and include support for prescription inserts.
The device features LCoS display technology with a 51-degree field of view and 16-million-color capability. The electrochromic lenses can transition from clear to sunglasses mode within 10 seconds. The glasses operate independently without external computing units.
Internally, the hardware utilizes two Qualcomm Snapdragon processors: one dedicated to computer vision and the other to the Snap AR interface. The integrated AI monitors the user's surroundings to provide contextual assistance and enables developers to build real-time AR applications.
The battery supports approximately 4 hours of mixed usage. The included charging case extends the total battery life to about 20 hours.
