UK-based launch startup Skyrora has updated its orbital launch target to 2030. This adjustment follows a previous projection that suggested an orbital attempt as early as the fourth quarter of 2026.

The company recently completed a 45-second hotfire test of a scaled-down engine. Data from this test will support the development of a larger 70 kN engine intended for the first stage of the Skylark XL rocket.

Skyrora, founded in 2017, has secured approximately $65.9 million in venture capital. Executives estimate that the company will require roughly double that amount to reach orbit, relying primarily on revenue and grants rather than aggressive funding rounds.

The decision to extend the development timeline is driven by limited sovereign launch demand and infrastructure constraints. Despite obtaining a launch license in August 2025, the company faces competition for launch pads at the SaxaVord Spaceport.
