In 2025, Skoda achieved an operating return on sales of 8.3 percent, maintaining its performance level from 2024. During the same period, Porsche saw its operating return on sales drop significantly from 14.1 percent in 2024 to 1.1 percent in 2025. This decline for Porsche was impacted by extraordinary expenses totaling approximately €3.9 billion.
Analyst Matthias Schmidt noted that Skoda has effectively become the new profit leader within the Volkswagen Group. While Skoda relies on consistent results from models like the Octavia and affordable electric vehicles, Porsche is currently facing challenges including weakened demand in China, increased competition, and rising tariff costs.
Porsche has projected an operating return on sales between 5.5 and 7.5 percent for 2026. The company is shifting its focus toward a value-over-volume strategy, prioritizing higher-margin vehicles to recover profitability. Meanwhile, Skoda continues to report record revenue and operating profit, with annual deliveries exceeding one million vehicles.
