Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia has launched a 12.37-megawatt solar carport project, which is now the largest installation of its kind in California. Developed in partnership with Solar Optimum and DSD Renewables, the facility features 22,908 bifacial solar panels mounted across 36 structures. The system covers 637,000 square feet and provides shade for 4,315 parking spaces.
The project includes 109 electric vehicle charging connectors for guests and employees. To manage energy storage, the site utilizes a 2 MW/8 MWh battery system capable of four hours of discharge. The installation is designed to generate approximately 20.8 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, aiming to offset the total yearly power consumption of the park and the adjacent Hurricane Harbor.
The park remains connected to the Southern California Edison grid to balance energy supply and demand. Construction of the carport began on November 1, 2023. This initiative follows similar solar projects previously implemented by Six Flags at its Discovery Kingdom and Great Adventure locations.
