Siemens has officially terminated the OpenRadioss open-source project, closing its website and GitHub repositories. The software, originally launched by Altair in 2022 under the GNU AGPL license, served as a professional finite element solver for dynamic simulations, including automotive crash tests and impact analysis.
The decision follows Siemens' acquisition of Altair in 2025. The company is shifting its focus to the Simcenter product suite, aiming to consolidate development resources and provide integrated support for production-level users. This move marks the end of the project's four-year open-access period.
Siemens is transitioning users to two new paths: the commercial Simcenter Radioss software for production environments and the Simcenter Radioss Research and Development Program (SCRDP). Unlike the previous open model, SCRDP operates as a shared-source environment requiring approval for access.
The closure limits public access to source code and development participation, which were previously available to any researcher or engineer. While existing local copies and third-party archives may remain, the official project will no longer receive updates, bug fixes, or optimizations for new hardware.
