Shell is expanding its electric vehicle charging infrastructure in Germany, where it already manages over 2,400 charging points. The company is now partnering with Amazon to provide high-power charging services for the retailer's fleet of heavy-duty electric trucks.
The collaboration focuses on dedicated charging hubs located in Hannover, Kirchheim, and Koblenz. These facilities are equipped with liquid-cooled chargers capable of delivering up to 400 kW of power, specifically designed to meet the operational requirements of heavy-duty transport fleets.
Amazon currently operates approximately 45 heavy-duty electric vehicles in Germany. To optimize logistics, the company will utilize Shell's Home-away-from-Home model, which allows fleet operators to book charging slots in advance at public sites to align with route planning and mandatory driver rest periods.
Access to the charging network and payment processing are integrated through the Shell Card. This system provides fleet customers with entry to Shell's specialized network for heavy-duty vehicles, which currently consists of around 150 charging points across the country.
