The Cherepovets-based Severstal-metiz plant has completed the transition of its pickling department cranes to a remote control system. This initiative is part of the company's strategic IT program titled 'Unmanned Technologies,' which aims to automate hazardous operations and mitigate production risks.

The project began in 2025 with an initial pilot phase that integrated control for two cranes into a single console. Following the successful trial, the facility has now migrated all five lifting mechanisms in the pickling department to a centralized dispatch center.

Operators now manage the equipment from high-tech control stations equipped with monitors and high-resolution video cameras. These systems provide a comprehensive view of the surrounding environment, while integrated safety sensors detect obstacles and personnel within the operating zone to ensure operational precision.
