Sensata Technologies has launched OmniNode, a standardized high-voltage power distribution unit designed for commercial battery-electric vehicles, including buses and trucks of Class 5 and above. The system integrates DC charging, switching, circuit protection, sensing, diagnostics, and communications into a single unit using the company's proprietary contactors, fuses, and sensors.
The OmniNode supports operating voltages up to 1,000 V DC and a continuous current rating of 500 A, with a boost capability of 700 A for 15 minutes at 60° C. It functions in ambient temperatures ranging from -40° C to 85° C and at altitudes up to 4,000 m without requiring active cooling. The unit provides bidirectional overcurrent and short-circuit protection, covering up to 1,250 A at 850 V.
The controller operates on 12 V and 24 V systems and supports CAN 2.0B, J1939, and CAN FD communication protocols. It includes an HVIL loop and is compatible with ISO 26262 safety standards up to ASIL-B. Optional features include precharge and isolation monitoring. Sensata notes that the unit reduces the need for custom-engineered solutions, simplifying integration and sourcing for OEMs.
