Senator John Curtis has requested that the Senate Judiciary Committee investigate the cryptocurrency projects associated with the family of US President Donald Trump. The inquiry focuses on the business activities of Donald Trump Jr., specifically his involvement in promoting family-led digital asset initiatives.
The investigation aims to determine if current ethics, disclosure, and anti-corruption regulations apply to these business relationships. Curtis proposed issuing subpoenas for both Donald Trump Jr. and Hunter Biden to examine their financial dealings, foreign connections, and potential conflicts of interest.
Donald Trump Jr. serves as a Web3 ambassador for the DeFi platform World Liberty Financial, which consolidated control under WLF Holdco in 2025. The platform raised $550 million through two public token sales, and President Trump reported over $57 million in income from WLFI token sales in June 2025.
The senator also highlighted Trump Jr.'s advisory roles at prediction market platforms Kalshi and Polymarket, noting their dependence on Commodity Futures Trading Commission regulations. Previous legislative efforts include Senator Richard Blumenthal's May 2025 inquiry and Senator Elizabeth Warren's 2026 proposal to restrict crypto income for officials.
