Senator John Curtis, a Republican from Utah, has formally requested that the Senate Judiciary Committee launch an investigation into the business activities of Donald Trump Jr. and Hunter Biden. In a letter addressed to Committee Chair Chuck Grassley and ranking member Dick Durbin, Curtis advocated for the issuance of subpoenas for both individuals.
The senator cited concerns regarding the potential use of presidential family connections for private financial gain. Specifically, Curtis highlighted Donald Trump Jr.’s promotion of family-backed cryptocurrency projects and his advisory roles in prediction market platforms, which fall under the oversight of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
Regarding Hunter Biden, the investigation request focuses on his past business dealings with foreign entities and instances where his relationship to the presidency may have been leveraged. Curtis noted that Hunter Biden previously denied involving his father in his commercial affairs, while President Biden issued a pardon for his son in December 2024.
The inquiry aims to determine if current ethics and anti-corruption laws were violated and to identify necessary legislative reforms. This move follows previous congressional scrutiny regarding the Trump family’s involvement in World Liberty Financial and a $500 million deal linked to the royal family of Abu Dhabi.
The request emerged shortly after the Senate failed to pass the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act. Some Democrats withheld support for the bill, citing concerns over President Trump’s earnings from digital asset ventures, which the president disclosed as $1,4 billion for the year 2025.
