The U.S. Senate is holding a cloture vote on the Clarity Act, which determines whether the legislative body will proceed to a formal debate on the bill. John Deaton, appearing on Bitcoin Magazine, noted that the current support from 53 Republican senators is insufficient to advance the measure.
According to Deaton, the passage of the bill requires additional backing from eight to ten Democratic senators. The discussion highlighted the positions of senators Josh Hawley and Rand Paul regarding the proposed regulation of digital assets.
Deaton argues that the current regulatory framework for blockchain in the United States relies on statutes dating back to the 1930s. The outcome of the vote will influence the future operating environment for American digital asset companies if legislative progress remains stalled.
