Toyota and Honda reported significant growth in US sedan sales during the first nine months of 2026. Toyota Camry sales reached 260,684 units, an 11.2 percent increase, while the Corolla saw 195,141 units sold, up 8.4 percent. Honda Accord sales surged by 32.7 percent to 145,520 units during the same period.

Hybrid models are driving this growth for both manufacturers. Toyota reported a 29 percent increase in overall US hybrid sales for the third quarter, with the Corolla hybrid reaching 13,003 units in that period alone. Honda noted that hybrids accounted for 44 percent of Accord sales and 35 percent of Civic sales in September.

The broader market shows a similar trend for passenger cars. Hyundai Elantra sales rose by approximately 18 percent, and Mazda3 sales increased by 42.3 percent year-to-date. Premium models also saw gains, with BMW 3 Series and Lexus IS sales both up by over 51 percent. Nissan models, however, showed a decline.

Affordability remains a key factor in the sedan resurgence. Models like the Honda Civic and Accord are available for under $30,000, often priced several thousand dollars lower than comparable compact SUVs. Additionally, hybrid versions offer fuel efficiency exceeding 48 mpg combined, providing an alternative to fully electric vehicles.
