The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission approved a rule change on October 2 allowing the Cboe exchange to list six new funds. These products are designed to provide triple the daily price performance of Bitcoin, Ethereum, gold, silver, crude oil, and natural gas.
The funds are managed by Volatility Shares and will be traded on the Cboe BZX Exchange. They utilize financial instruments like futures to achieve their 3x target. The SEC noted that these funds reset daily, meaning the triple-exposure promise applies only to single-day price movements.
Regulators have issued warnings regarding the risks of these products, noting that long-term returns may deviate significantly from the daily target. Issuers must comply with existing SEC and FINRA requirements, including Regulation Best Interest and strict margin rules for leveraged assets.
The SEC previously halted reviews for products exceeding 2x exposure in December 2025 and discouraged 5x products in March 2026. While the agency has now cleared these 3x funds, no specific launch date has been set, as trading depends on the effectiveness of each fund's registration statement.
