SBI Holdings, via its subsidiary SBI Digital Practice, and Kyobo Life Insurance have successfully completed a pilot program for cross-border stablecoin transfers. The project focused on testing institutional transactions between Japan and South Korea using the Canton Network's test environment.

The proof of concept simulated the entire transaction lifecycle, including the transfer of yen-denominated stablecoin representations, their conversion into won-denominated assets, and final settlement. Notably, the structure facilitated a direct yen-to-won exchange, eliminating the need for US dollars as an intermediary currency.

The initiative aimed to address the inefficiencies of traditional international transfers, which typically involve multiple financial institutions and complex currency conversions. The test also evaluated methods for tracking transaction data and managing digital assets securely.

Looking ahead, both companies plan to leverage the results of this pilot to foster further collaboration in the digital asset sector. Future efforts may include integrating digital asset exchanges with asset management services and developing new financial business models.
